Florida Democrats Record Fundraising Continues As Party Celebrates Best First Quarter Ever; Floridians Continue Registering As Democrats
Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman announced today that Florida Democrats continue fundraising at a record pace, with over 2,500 donations contributed to our efforts to end business as usual in Tallahassee in the first quarter of 2010.
“Fueled by the grassroots army we are building, the Florida Democratic Party’s momentum to end business as usual in Tallahassee and clean up the Republican culture of corruption keeps growing,” said Thurman. “As we kicked off this election year, Floridians continued joining our party at a record rate, and we are celebrating the best first quarter fundraising in our party’s history. Over the past three months, 2,500 people contributed to our banner fundraising quarter as we fight to elect Democrats across Florida, including hundreds of new donors who contributed at www.FlaDems.com.”
Florida Democrats are celebrating the best first quarter in Party history raising nearly $2.77 million. Historically, the Florida Democratic Party had raised an average of $1.4 million during the first quarters of an election year.
While much attention was paid to the demographic shifts going into the 2008 election, the latest registration data from the Florida Division of Elections shows that these trends continue to shade Florida blue. During the first quarter, Florida Democrats continued to out register Republicans, with 27,046 Floridians joining our party, which is 4,610 more voters than joined the Republican Party. Since the 2008 election, 58,580 more Floridians registered to vote as Democrats than did as Republicans, as 201,849 people have registered as Democrats while only 143,269 voters joined the Republican Party.
