Florida Democratic Party Responds to Republican Efforts to Repeal Affordable Care Act
As early as next week, Republicans in Congress will rush a bill to the floor of the House of Representatives that would repeal the Affordable Care Act – a hallmark piece of legislation that gives Americans more freedom and control over their health care choices. Florida Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff released the following statement condemning Republicans for siding with insurance companies over middle class Floridians and re-fighting the political wars of the past two years:
“For nearly a century Presidents from both parties have tried to pass comprehensive health reform, and now that reform is the law of the land, Republicans want to undo the progress that we as a country have made. Make no mistake about it, families and small businesses across the Sunshine State are benefiting every day from the Affordable Care Act.
“Repealing the Affordable Care Act would explode the deficit, and it would bring back the days when insurance companies could put their profits over the care of Floridians. Because of the Affordable Care Act families have more freedom and control over their health care; children can stay on their parents’ insurance until they are 26; insurance companies can no longer deny women health insurance because they are pregnant; and insurance companies can no longer refuse to provide coverage to children who have preexisting conditions. And those are just a few of the many benefits of reform.
“Republicans want to do away with these reforms and put insurance companies ahead of the health care you and your family receive. Democrats across Florida stand with President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress as they fight Republicans’ efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.”
