Will Republican Senate Whitewash Haridopolos’ Breaking Florida Ethics Laws
After kicking off his U.S. Senate Campaign by pleading guilty to breaking Florida’s ethics laws, on Thursday the Florida Senate’s Rules committee will take up the issue when they hear the Ethics Commission report. Florida Democratic Party Executive Director Scott Arceneaux said:
“Over the past decade, Senate President Mike Haridopolos’ career has been marred by his numerous ethical lapses and defined by his sweetheart deals that he personally profits from.
“With the Senate Rules Committee this week considering how to punish Haridopolos, after he plead guilty to systemically breaking Florida’s ethics laws, Floridians are watching to see if the Republican Senate will hold Haridopolos accountable by censuring him.
“Anything short of moving forward with a formal censure would show that the Republicans are simply whitewashing Haridopolos’ questionable ethics and guilty plea.”
Senate Rules specifically allow for, “A Senator determined to have violated the requirements of the Rules regulating legislative conduct and ethics may be censured, reprimanded, or expelled.”
