Florida Democratic Party Statement On LeMieux Joining Divisive Republican Senate Primary

Florida Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff released the following statement reacting to George LeMieux entering the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate:

“After being widely criticized when he was appointed to the U.S. Senate, George LeMieux simply played partisan games and worked to appease the extreme rightwing of the Republican Party rather than doing what was right for Florida.

“LeMieux focused on pandering to K Street lobbyists and Wall Street bankers while in the Senate, working to promote himself rather than the people of the Sunshine State.

“Like his opponents in what promises to be a long, divisive Republican primary, LeMieux’s ethics have long been in question. Not only has LeMieux made millions of dollars as he sold his access to the Governor’s office, his appointment to the Senate was denounced as a ‘glaring example of political cronyism.’ And if that wasn’t bad enough, LeMieux voted against protecting Florida’s taxpayers just days after holding a fundraiser with Wall Street lobbyists.”
