Florida Democratic Party Holds #VoteThemOut Day of Action
Across the state Democrats mobilize voters in response to Scott’s & Tallahassee Republicans self-serving politics and refusal to pass serious gun safety reforms
In response to Rick Scott and Tallahassee Republican’s refusal to pass serious gun safety measures — like an assault weapons ban and expanded background checks – this weekend Florida Democrats held a #VoteThemOut Day of Action to show Republican lawmakers that no GOP seat is safe and hold them accountable for ignoring the voices of Florida voters.
Across the state over 30 events were held, with Democrats phone banking and registering voters. The #VoteThemOut Day of Action was a statewide effort in response to Republican inaction in Tallahassee and the fact that SB 7026 does not go far enough to prevent another mass shooting.
“Instead of passing meaningful reforms that will make us safer from gun violence, Rick Scott and Tallahassee Republicans did what they always do: look out for themselves and put their own political interests over what’s best for Floridians,” said FDP Chair Terrie Rizzo. “Scott and the GOP controlled legislature are ignoring the voices of Floridians, and across our state voters sent a loud message that these Republicans will be held accountable for their self-serving politics.”
Several Democratic lawmakers signed on to endorsed the #VoteThemOut day of action, including:
Congressman Darren Soto
Congressman Alcee Hastings
Congressman Ted Dutch
Senator Linda Stewart
Senator Bobby Powell Jr.
Senator Victor Torres
Representative Wengay “Newt” Newton
