STATEMENT: Rick Scott Shortchanges Students in His Latest Assault on Public Eduction
Below is a statement from FDP spokesperson Caroline Rowland on Rick Scott’s signing of the state budget:
“Rick Scott’s final budget finishes where his first one started – shortchanging the students and teachers of Florida’s public schools for the sake of his self-serving politics. Scott did not listen to students and victims who wanted safer schools and now he refused to listen to superintendents who demanded better public education for our children. He started his administration by cutting more than $1 billion from Florida’s K-12 schools and is now giving schools just an additional 47 cents per student, not near enough to cover the increasing cost of education. This budget is another example of how Scott is only ever looking out for himself and his own political agenda, while Floridians pay the price.”
