Today, the Republican Party of Florida announced that Dinesh D’Souza will speak at the party’s Sunshine Summit—which will also host the first gubernatorial debate between Ron DeSantis and Adam Putnam. Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement calling on the RPOF to cancel the appearance:
“Dinesh D’Souza is a bully who represents everything that is wrong with our politics. D’Souza spent the week after Parkland openly mocking Marjory Stoneman Douglas students for having the courage to speak their minds in the face of unimaginable tragedy and violence. While Republicans and Democrats may have significant disagreements about policy, we can all agree as Floridians that the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas deserve to be heard — not insulted.
“By inviting D’Souza to appear at the Sunshine Summit, Florida Republicans are endorsing D’Souza’s behavior. The Republican Party of Florida should immediately cancel D’Souza’s appearance, and leading Republican candidates like Adam Putnam and Ron DeSantis who are attending the Summit, should make clear that D’Souza’s rhetoric has no place in their party or the state of Florida.”
