Yet again, Rick Scott refused to stand up for Floridians’ access to quality and affordable healthcare coverage after the Trump Administration recently launched an effort to strip protections for those with pre-existing conditions. According to recent estimates, over seven million Floridians have pre-existing conditions.
According to Florida Politics, when asked on Wednesday about the Trump Administration’s decision to no longer fight for patients with pre-existing medical conditions, Scott “remained vague on the issue.”
Earlier this week, Politico reported on Scott’s unwillingness to criticize Trump, even as he moved to strip healthcare protections from millions of Floridians, writing “Gov. Rick Scott declined on Monday to criticize the Trump administration’s court effort to gut the [pre-existing condition] provision from Obamacare.”
Statement from Florida Democratic Party Spokesman Nate Evans:
“Given yet another chance to stand up for the seven million Floridians with pre-existing conditions who could lose their healthcare as a result of Donald Trump’s actions, self-serving Rick Scott once again showed where his loyalties lie. With crucially important issues like healthcare, Scott has proven time and time again that he’d rather cozy up to Donald Trump than advocate for Floridians’ best interests.”
