Coaster Derailment Injured Nine and Plunged Two Riders 34 Feet
In the latest example of incompetence at Adam Putnam’s Agriculture Department, on Friday Department inspectors approved the safety of a roller coaster — hours before it crashed. The derailment caused two riders to plunge more than 34 feet and sent six individuals to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
“Every week, there’s a new report about Adam Putnam’s department failing to do its job. Putnam has created a culture of mismanagement, lack of accountability and incompetence at the Department of Agriculture. Putnam has spent almost a year running for governor instead of doing his job — and Floridians are paying the price,” said FDP spokesperson Kevin Donohoe.
The latest scandal at the Agriculture Department comes as Ron DeSantis continues to slam Putnam on his record as Agriculture Commissioner. Last night in Jacksonville, DeSantis told WJXT that “anytime you bungle your responsibilities, that’s going to be an issue. The Ag Department doesn’t do very much — concealed weapons permits, supposed to look out of for the citrus industry. It seems he’s had problems with both of those regards.” And it’s not just DeSantis. Everytown for Gun Safety, along with Florida legislators and editorial boards, have called for Putnam’s Department to lose control of the state’s concealed carry permitting system after it granted hundreds of concealed carry permits without doing full background checks.
