Historic Win for Jane Castor in Tampa, First LGBT Mayor of Major City in the Southeastern U.S.

Today, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement congratulating Jane Castor on her historic election as Tampa’s next mayor:

“Jane Castor’s historic victory is a clear win for Tampa and cements her status as a rising star in the Democratic Party. Jane made history by running a campaign that was optimistic, substantive, and laser-focused on expanding opportunity for everyone. Jane’s historic and overwhelming victory is just the latest sign that Tampa has become a vibrant, welcoming city where everyone has a shot to succeed — no matter who you love.”

Castor is set to be the first openly gay mayor of a major city in the Southeastern U.S. and the first openly gay mayor in the history of Tampa—Florida’s third largest city.
