Today on the occasion of celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:
“I am proud to join millions of Hispanics and Latinxs celebrating and honoring the contributions and culture of Hispanics to our nation. Our state is an example of the hard work and vision of Hispanics who came to work, live and fight for the country they call home. But celebrating the National Hispanic Heritage Month also means protecting Latinxs from the attacks they face under this administration. Whether it is denying refuge to Venezuelans and Cubans fleeing from cruel regimes, putting immigrant kids in cages, denying funds to Puerto Ricans impacted by natural disasters or passing policies hurting and leaving many Latinxs behind, the Trump administration and the Republican Party have systematically attacked the Latinx community with a hateful and racist agenda.
Today, Florida Democrats continue to stand up for the Hispanic communities and commit to making our state an inclusive and safe space for everybody. We also honor our Hispanic elected officials, leaders and activists who every day show us the importance of highlighting and protecting the achievements and contributions of their communities. Together we are making our country a better place for all of us.”
