Hours before Donald Trump’s visit to The Villages begins, Democrats, seniors’ advocates, and Villages residents slammed Trump’s record on Social Security, Medicare, and prescription drugs.
An article in Politico looked at how Trump looks to “escape critics” in The Villages. Yet even in this Republican stronghold, the president was blasted by the Sumter County Democratic Executive Committee, the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans, and a mobile billboard calling out Trump’s failure on drug prices.
“Retirees aren’t born Democrats, Republicans, or yesterday” Barbara DeVane, state secretary of the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans.
DeVane continued that “We are outraged that Trump would dare to come to a place that has so many retirees that depend on Medicare and Social Security, and so desire for true, true programs that will bring down the costs of pharmaceutical drugs in this country” and “what a scam that I am sure he is going to bring.”
DeVane didn’t let up in her criticism stating “We are outraged that he is here to tell more lies, I know he’s here to try and scare seniors.” And that “We know that President Trump and his cronies in Congress have not protected Social Security and Medicare.” In fact, “Trump and his cronies in Congress have already proposed drastic cuts to Medicare.”
Terrie Rizzo, chair of the Florida Democratic Party, blasted Trump: “Donald Trump thinks he can hide in The Villages from his broken promises, his lies, and his corruption, but we have a message for Trump — the truth is catching up to you and Florida isn’t fooled.”
