Democrats won over a dozen key races across the state last night.
Tuesday night, Florida Democrats won key municipal races across the state, flipping several from red-to-blue in Deep red areas. One of the top flips of the night was by Ron Feinsod, winning the mayoral race in Venice, where Republicans outnumber Democrats 9,500 to 5,500.
“This win is a testament to the work of our local Sarasota Democratic Party in partnership with the Florida Democratic Party’s Municipal Victory Program,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo. “We know that when we recruit quality candidates and invest in their campaigns we win at every level!”
Other wins in red areas include Michael Cadore, who flipped a seat on the Rockledge City Council and Shaun Ferguson who was re-elected to the Rockledge City Council in Brevard County. Democrats also picked up another seat on the St. Petersburg City Council with Deborah Figgs-Sanders win.
The Florida Democratic Party launched its Municipal Victory Program in 2018, and expanded on it in 2019 to include regional trainings, campaign blue-print, and investments in municipal races the party has ever made before.
“We are excited to continue to grow on the successes we had last night – and work to elect more Democrats at the municipal level in 2020 and beyond,” said Municipal Victory Program Director Lisa Peth. “This is about building a bench, and we know that when more Democrats run, more Democrats vote, and more Democrats win.”
