Today, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to protect DACA and reverse the Trump Administration’s “arbitrary and capricious” decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. In celebration of their decision, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party Terrie Rizzo issued the following statement:
“Back in 2012, the Obama-Biden Administration created DACA to protect young people who have only ever known the United States as home and offer them a chance to work, study, and live a full life– free from the threat of deportation. DACA gave hundreds of thousands of young people a chance at a better life – and they gave infinitely more back to our communities and country. Today, the Supreme Court has spoken and affirmed what we knew to be true: home is here and DACA is here to stay” said Terrie Rizzo, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
“Today is a victorious day for DACA recipients, their loved ones, and those of us who know that Dreamers are Americans. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the more than 700,000 DACA recipients whose lives were hanging in the balance due to the Trump administration’s cruelty. Now, we must work towards compassionate and comprehensive immigration reform and we at the Florida Democratic Party are committed to working towards that reality.
“The Florida Democratic Party applauds the Supreme Court’s decision, and looks forward to electing Joe Biden this November, who has committed to establishing a roadmap to citizenship for Dreamers, their parents, and so many more who deserve it.”
