Today, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Florida’s May unemployment rate rose to 14.5 percent, up from April’s 13.8 percent. In response, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:
“Florida’s unemployment rate is the highest it’s been in four decades — another horrible consequence of Donald Trump’s utter failure to respond to the coronavirus pandemic quickly and effectively. As COVID-19 cases surge in Florida and the rest of the country, Donald Trump is once again burying his head in the sand instead of tackling the problem — a president more concerned with his ability to host a political rally than the spread of a deadly virus. We need Joe Biden, a leader capable of navigating crises, in the White House to get this economy back on track and Floridians safely back to work.
