On Tuesday, Donald Trump refused to denounce white supremacy and instead told the deeply hateful and racist white supremacist group The Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by”. This is unacceptable and requires immediate action from other members of his party.
In response Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement
“The Florida Democratic Party denounces white supremacy in all its forms. Yesterday, President Donald Trump refused to denounce white supremacy on national television. The Republican Party’s sole platform this year is to re-elect Donald Trump, and if Florida Republicans don’t actively stand up to condemn white supremacy and ask the leader of their party to unequivocally do the same, we can only assume they condone this behavior.
“It is incumbent upon Florida Republicans to stand up against hate and racism. We need our leaders to defend our values of equality and freedom, not pander to extremist groups. I look forward to hearing from our Florida Republican delegation on this important matter.”
