Yesterday, the Florida Commission on Human Relations affirmed that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in situations of employment, housing, and public accommodations is illegal in Florida. This means that the Commission will be fully implementing the the US Supreme Court’s ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County and will be investigating claims of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
In celebration, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz released the following statement:
“Yesterday, equality won in Florida. The decision by the Florida Commission on Human Relations to affirm anti-discrimination protections for the LGBTQ community is a monumental victory for civil rights and will make Florida a more just and equal state for all. Congratulations to all of the advocates and activists who worked tirelessly to help make this state a better place for all Floridians.”
