FDP Chair Manny Diaz Hails Planned Nomination of Francisco O. Mora To The Post of Ambassador to the Organization of American States
Today, the Biden administration announced its intent to nominate Francisco O. Mora to the post of Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the Organization of American States with the rank of Ambassador.
Mr. Mora, who is Cuban American, is a Professor of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University in Miami. He previously served as the Director of the University’s Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center. During the Obama administration he worked as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Defense for the Western Hemisphere. He is a recipient of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service, Department of Defense. He is a native Spanish speaker and also speaks Portuguese.
In reaction to this development, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz issued the following statement:
“I applaud the Biden administration’s move to nominate Francisco O. Mora to the post of U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States. Mr. Mora has the knowledge, experience and vision to truly excel in that role. I have known Mr. Mora for many years, and know him to be someone who not only understands the hemisphere, but is fully committed to championing democracy and human rights across the entire continent.
“At a time when our nation is facing so many challenges in the region, including the potential for further political instability in Haiti and the Cuban regime’s egregious, ongoing abuse of the rights of peaceful protesters and dissidents on the island, I simply cannot think of a better choice to represent our country at the Organization of American States.”
