Marco Rubio Must Answer Questions About Ties to Indicted Child Sex Trafficker
Anton Lazzaro, a Republican operative who donated the maximum amount to Marco Rubio’s 2016 campaign, was recently arrested by the FBI and indicted on multiple counts of sex trafficking of a minor. According to the indictment, Lazzaro allegedly “recruited” at least five victims last year, and was also charged with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and obstruction of justice.
Not only did Lazzaro give thousands to Rubio’s campaign, we know from photos Rubio appeared with him during at least one event. While other Republicans have condemned Lazzaro and those with ties to him, Rubio has lacked the courage to speak out against his donor’s horrific crimes, raising a number of questions about their relationship:
- When and where was the photo of Rubio and Lazzaro taken?
- How many other times have they met or spoken to each other?
- Will Rubio return the money Lazzaro gave him?
- Will Rubio encourage his Republican colleagues who also took money from Lazzaro to return it?
“Marco Rubio is so spineless that he won’t even distance himself from a disgusting donor who was just indicted for child sex trafficking,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox. “Rubio’s relationship with Anton Lazzaro raises serious questions, and Floridians deserve immediate answers.”
