Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz issued the following statement after Hollywood Police Officer Yandy Chirino, 28, was shot to death on Sunday while responding to a call on suspicious activity:
“I send my deepest condolences to Officer Yandy Chirino’s family and loved ones after his untimely passing this Sunday while working to protect the people of Hollywood. I know to his family no words will replace the loss they have suffered, but we should take this time to reflect not only on his life, but also on the job our men and women in uniform undertake everyday they clip on their badge.
“Whether it is exposing themselves to COVID infection while serving the public, or to dangerous, and sometimes fatal, situations such as Sunday’s, we must always keep in mind the risks police officers undertake to protect us and the difficult circumstances they face. Officer Chirino’s life and service will not be forgotten.”
