Following the Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as a Supreme Court Justice, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz released this statement:
“I am immensely proud that Judge Jackson, a native Floridian and graduate of Miami-Dade County public schools, will be the first Black woman confirmed to the Supreme Court. Throughout the confirmation process, Judge Jackson demonstrated extraordinary knowledge, character, and poise. Her bipartisan support is a clear sign that her experience and qualifications are second to none.
“Sadly, Florida’s two Senators, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, put their partisan agendas ahead of supporting a highly qualified judge who will make history as the first Black woman justice on the Supreme Court. To them, nothing is more important than scoring political points. Their support of their Republican colleagues’ demeaning and disrespectful questioning of Judge Jackson is shameful.
“President Biden promised to make history with this appointment, and Judge Jackson’s confirmation today is a fulfillment of that promise. For far too long, the most powerful institutions in our nation have excluded the voices and experiences of Black women. Judge Jackson’s appointment should be a cause for celebration as we move closer to fulfilling America’s promise of ‘liberty and justice for all.’”
