Marco Rubio Defended His Wealthy Donors After They Scammed Student Borrowers
Recent news that the Biden administration is forgiving the student debt of borrowers who were victimized by Corinthian Colleges’ predatory financial schemes is a new reminder for Floridians that Marco Rubio sided with his wealthy donors at Corinthian over the students they drove into debt.
“After Corinthian Colleges’ predatory lending schemes were revealed, Marco Rubio defended them over the thousands of student borrowers who were suffering. This is just another shameful example of why Floridians can’t trust Marco Rubio to stand up for them – pleasing his wealthy donors always comes first,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.
As Corinthian Colleges, one of the nation’s largest for-profit college companies, was under investigation for misleading and defrauding student borrowers, Marco Rubio defended Corinthian while accepting thousands of dollars in campaign cash from one of their leaders and PACs. In 2010, a Corinthian executive donated the maximum amount to Rubio’s Senate campaign. As Corinthian was under investigation in 2014, the company’s PAC gave thousands to Rubio’s Reclaim America PAC.
