As Senate Republicans introduce a national abortion ban today, Marco Rubio is already pushing to go farther. Rubio has backed a federal ban on abortion before, and recently doubled down on his support for abortion bans that start “at the moment of conception,” even with no exceptions.
“Marco Rubio supports extreme bans on abortion that would force victims of rape, incest, and human trafficking to give birth. Floridians deserve leaders who will protect their freedoms, but Marco Rubio has spent years trying to control their health care decisions, backing a national ban on abortion and introducing legislation to jail doctors for providing reproductive health care,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.
Marco Rubio has a long record of supporting dangerous abortion bans:
In a recent interview, Rubio admitted that his support for abortion bans without exceptions was far outside the mainstream, and that he personally supported going farther than Florida’s ban on abortion after 15 weeks that had no exceptions for victims of rape, incest, and human trafficking.
Rubio also recently declared that pregnant mothers deserve fewer rights than embryos.
During his failed presidential campaign, Rubio said he did not support exceptions for victims of rape and incest.
He previously backed a constitutional amendment to ban abortions nationwide with no exceptions for victims of rape and incest, and supported a measure to allow spouses to intervene to stop their partner’s abortion.
Rubio said he would never change his views on abortion “no matter how much the world changes” and would continue to support extreme abortion bans “even if 100 percent” of his constituents disagreed with him.
