Today, Ron DeSantis signed a bill that executed a state government takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District that surrounds Walt Disney World, in retaliation for the company speaking out against DeSantis’s political agenda. The move bears a striking resemblance to a criticism DeSantis made of the Obama administration nearly twelve years ago.
SHOT: DeSantis signed a law that allows the governor to appoint all members of the Reedy Creek Improvement District’s governing board, securing power of the district in DeSantis’s hands.
CHASER: In his 2011 book, “Dreams From Our Founding Fathers”, DeSantis criticized the use of government “power to intimidate private businesses for engaging in speech [they] didn’t like. This illustrates the progressive impulse to centralize authority in bureaucratic arrangements at its apogee.”
