Today, as Ron DeSantis releases the book he describes as “Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival,” the Florida Democratic Party held a press call with Chair Nikki Fried to highlight the real record DeSantis has built here in Florida.
“When we take a closer look at DeSantis’s record, we can see what the real Florida blueprint looks like: It’s an extreme agenda that puts wealthy special interests and the MAGA base ahead of working people,” said Chair Nikki Fried on the call. “Even before he became governor, Ron DeSantis made it his mission to appeal to far right extremists and align himself with Donald Trump. As a member of Congress, DeSantis was a founding member of the extremist, right-wing House Freedom Caucus that was more focused on creating chaos than serving their constituents.
“Now, as governor, DeSantis is advancing an extreme right-wing agenda at the state level and Floridians are suffering because of it. Last year, he signed an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, putting Floridians in heartbreaking situations, including forcing a child rape victim to leave the state to get an abortion. Now he’s promised to sign an even stricter abortion ban this legislative session. And even as Florida faces one of the highest rates of uninsured people and some of the highest out-of-pocket health care expenses, DeSantis refuses to expand the state’s Medicaid program. Instead of working to help Floridians get access to affordable, quality healthcare, and reducing the number of uninsured people in the state, DeSantis is working to purge nearly 2 million Floridians from the state’s Medicaid program with no plan in place for getting these people healthcare coverage. Meanwhile, DeSantis is championing a permitless carry bill, even as public safety advocates warn against what it would mean for Floridians and Florida’s law enforcement officers.
“If Ron DeSantis takes his “Florida blueprint” to the national stage, his results in Florida tell you everything you need to know about what will happen: everyday, hard working Americans are the ones who stand to lose with DeSantis’s agenda.”
