Today, as Mike Pence stops in Naples to visit with the anti-choice group, Students for Life of America, Florida Democratic Party Spokesperson Devon Cruz released the following statement:
“As Mike Pence travels the country and tries to win over the MAGA base, he has put attacking reproductive freedom at the core of his potential candidacy. After paving the way to overturn Roe v. Wade, Pence’s vision would ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions for rape and incest and put access to contraception at risk.”
Here’s what you need to know about Mike Pence’s attacks on reproductive freedom:
Pence described the Trump Administration’s installing of three Republican Justices on the Supreme Court and overturning Roe v. Wade as the administration’s “greatest accomplishment.”
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe, Pence encouraged Congressional Republicans to use potential majorities in the House and Senate to pass a nationwide abortion ban.
As governor, Pence signed anti-abortion legislation every year he was in office, including some of the most extreme restrictions in the country.
Pence has repeatedly expressed his support for a national ban on abortion pills.
Pence’s advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom Agenda, has called on Congress to pass national anti-abortion legislation including a nationwide abortion ban that threatens doctors with jail time and includes no exceptions for rape or incest, and legislation that could open the door to ban Plan B and some forms of birth control.
