DeSantis Rushes to the Right As Legislative Session Kicks Off
Today, Ron DeSantis delivered his State of the State address to kick off a legislative session designed to rubber stamp his extreme agenda. With supermajorities in the House and Senate to do his bidding, DeSantis has pushed increasingly extreme proposals in the legislature in order to start winning over the MAGA base ahead of a potential 2024 run.
Here’s a look at the increasingly extreme agenda Ron DeSantis is pushing for this session:
ABORTION:
- After signing an extreme 15-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest or human trafficking, DeSantis has promised to sign an even more extreme draconian abortion ban this legislative session – which Republican legislators introduced this morning.
GUNS:
- While pushing a permitless carry bill that has been described as a “recipe for disaster” and removes existing training requirements for concealed weapons carriers through the legislature, DeSantis took an even more extreme position on the issue by also endorsing a potential open carry bill.
IMMIGRATION:
- Feeling the heat from Nikki Haley’s call for a federal E-Verify mandate, DeSantis reignited his call for all Florida employers to use a flawed system that could jeopardize American jobs after his first attempt was weakened amid pushback from the state’s business community.
