Florida Democrats Respond to Reports of Abuse in Florida State Guard and Military Style Training
After reports of abuse in the Florida State Guard and military style training broke late last week, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried issued the following statement:
“This news should concern every Floridian, said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Unlike the National Guard, the State Guard only answers to the governor and it is clear that Ron is trying to build his own army.
“The original mission of the State Guard is to serve the people of Florida in times of need and disaster, but what we are seeing in training now is beyond preparation for disaster relief – it is state sanctioned abuse of our veterans and volunteers, and a training ground for his own personal militia. They didn’t sign up for this.
“When I called Ron a dictator, everyone called me ‘radical’, but there’s nothing more radical than using the apparatus of the state to target its own citizens. This is not democracy, this is textbook dictatorship.”
