The Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:
“Congressional Republicans have spent years playing political games without any concern for the consequences,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “As death tolls rise and militaries around the world go on high alert, their latest stunts have left us unprepared to respond to the unprecedented global crisis unfolding in Israel.
“Thanks to Matt Gaetz’s antics, the House of Representatives has no Speaker and can therefore do no serious business — including the approval of critical relief funds to Israel.
“In the Senate, Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have supported Tommy Tuberville’s blockade on military confirmations. Now, with the prospect of war on the horizon, we have over 300 general and flag officer vacancies to fill, including the chief of Naval Operations.
“Finally, Kat Cammack has implored the president to withdraw his nomination of Jack Lew as Ambassador to Israel over petty partisan disagreements, when former Secretary Lew is eminently qualified to hold the position.
“When Americans wonder why it’s taking so long for Congress to provide critical aid to Israel in their time of need, the blame clearly falls at the hands of Florida Republicans. Their obstructionist tactics have weakened our country and made allies like Israel more vulnerable.
“The Florida Democratic Party calls on Florida Congressional Republicans to remember what they were elected to do — govern. Find a coalition to elect a Speaker, fill our crucial military vacancies, and appoint an Ambassador to Israel as soon as possible.”
