Today, in a press conference with Florida Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Retired Navy Commander Phil Ehr announced a run for Congress against Carlos Gimenez in FL-28. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has released the following statement:
“Florida Democrats are fielding competitive races across the state from crucial congressional seats to the U.S. Senate to make sure we defeat Rick Scott next November,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried.
“Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is a proven leader who can fight for Floridians, and momentum is building for her formidable Senate campaign. In Congress, Debbie fought to protect Social Security and expand Medicare for our seniors, while Rick Scott wrote a plan to end Social Security and Medicare — leaving Florida’s seniors behind.
“Commander Ehr is a perfect example of the type of accountable, compassionate leader we need in Congress — a stark contrast to a Donald Trump lackey like Carlos Gimenez. While Gimenez has been serving Donald Trump and directly undermining American democracy, Phil has lived a life of service to others, fighting for American values at home and abroad. Congressional District 28 is a crucial piece of the plan to take back Washington from the Republican chaos caucus.
“Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Phil Ehr are both dedicated public servants and strong Democratic candidates, and I want to thank them both for their service to the state of Florida. Together, we can defeat Rick Scott and Carlos Gimenez, lower costs for working families, and put freedom back in the hands of Floridians.”
