Tonight, Donald Trump is expected to deliver a keynote address at the National Rifle Association’s Presidential Forum. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:
“As we approach the sixth anniversary of the Parkland massacre, Donald Trump’s continued pandering to the gun lobby proves he’s unfit to serve as president,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “The NRA lobbied tirelessly against the bipartisan reforms passed after Parkland — and even now, they’re working to roll back these common sense measures that protect our kids and our streets.
“When I was Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, one of my responsibilities was overseeing concealed weapons permits. I stood up to Trump and the January 6th insurrectionists by suspending their licenses — because real leadership requires putting people over politics.
“Floridians are no strangers to the epidemic of gun violence, and we won’t forget how often Donald Trump chooses the gun lobby over our safety. We’ll never ‘get over’ the tragic loss of life Trump’s dangerous rhetoric enables, and Florida Democrats vow to hold Donald Trump and Republicans at every level of government accountable for siding with the NRA.”
