FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONDEMNS LATEST REPUBLICAN BILL ATTACKING ABORTION
Today, the Florida House Judiciary Committee advanced CS/HB 651, a bill designed to penalize women and anyone helping pregnant people seek abortion in Florida. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:
“The latest Republican bill attacking abortion in Florida is extremely dangerous and would have major legal consequences,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “The potential misuses are staggering — purposefully broad language could help abusers weaponize the judicial system to harass and punish their pregnant partners with costly civil lawsuits.
“As we wait for the Florida Supreme Court to rule on Ron’s extreme abortion bans and decide on the future of the ballot initiative, it’s bills like this that create a system paralyzed by fear, where doctors are too scared to provide care and anyone who helps someone make the hardest decision of their life could be punished.
“Florida Democrats are as determined as to fight back against Republican fear-mongering in 2024. With the threat of a nationwide abortion ban, it’s up to us to re-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to protect and restore reproductive rights at the ballot box
