FLORIDA DEMOCRATS SLAM REPUBLICANS FOR PLAYING POLITICS WITH BORDER SECURITY
Today, President Biden visited the Texas-Mexico border to meet with law enforcement and local leaders. Donald Trump is also visiting the border today for an interview with Fox News. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:
“Voters want solutions to border security and real action on immigration reform, and that’s what President Biden and Democrats have been fighting for,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Unfortunately, Republicans like Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are only interested in using the border as a political prop.
“Last week, Ron DeSantis deployed more state troopers and members of the Florida National Guard to the southern border, all to make himself look tough on immigration — but when reporters went to check on what they’re actually doing, they caught state troopers watching videos in their squad cars and doing some routine traffic stops.
“After directing congressional Republicans — including his puppet-in-Chief Rick Scott — to kill the bipartisan border deal, Donald Trump is using the border as a backdrop for an interview with Sean Hannity. Trump’s presidency was defined by creating chaos at the border and removing children from their parents — it’s not surprising that he’s standing in the way of increased border security to look good on TV.
“President Biden has repeatedly offered fair, tough, and popular solutions on immigration — solutions that Republicans in Congress have shot down in the name of politics. It’s time for them to stop thinking about what’s best for Donald Trump and start thinking about what’s best for America.”
