Over the weekend, Cubans took to the streets in the cities of Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo to protest power blackouts reportedly lasting up to 8 hours per day and a shortage of food supplies. In response, the Florida Democratic Party issued the following statement:
“We condemn the continued repression of the Cuban people, who are pleading for electricity and other basic utilities needed to survive. The Cuban people have lived like this for far too long,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried.
“Florida Democrats across the state stand with the Cuban people, both in Cuba and here in Florida, who took to the streets on Sunday in peaceful protests calling on the regime to restore electricity and basic freedoms to all of Cuba.”
