Florida Democratic Party Condemns Ron DeSantis Appointment of Jay Collins to Lieutenant Governor Post

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried condemns Governor Ron DeSantis for appointing Jay Collins to the post of Lieutenant Governor.

“Ron DeSantis has once again shown how out of touch he is with Floridians with his choice of Jay Collins as Florida’s Lieutenant Governor. This appointment underscores how little respect he has for the position  and how few allies he has left.

As a Senator, Jay Collins has been a disaster for Floridians. From pushing legislation that would allow children to work more than 30 hours a week, to ‘accidentally’ filing a bill permitting the Confederate flag to fly over public buildings, Collins has proven himself to be nothing more than a rubber stamp for the Governor’s extremism as DeSantis enters his lame duck season.”

At a time of economic uncertainty, Floridians need leaders who are laser-focused on lowering the cost of housing and everyday essentials like groceries and medicine. They deserve true public servants, not politicians playing games with people’s lives.
