Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried Joins Entire Florida Democratic Legislative Delegation and calls on Gov. DeSantis to Declare a State of Emergency to ensure Children and Seniors Don’t Go Hungry

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried joins the entire Florida Democratic Legislative Delegation, calling on Ron DeSantis to make sure families don’t go hungry. The Trump Administration has indicated on November 1st, SNAP benefits will not be distributed. That means nearly 3 million Floridians, including 1.5 million children, will not receive the aid they need to eat.

“In just 4 days, nearly 3 million Floridians who rely on SNAP benefits will not be able to afford food, including 1.5 million children, and over 700,000 seniors”, Chair Fried stated.

“I join Leaders Driskell and Berman, and the entire Democratic legislative delegation, in calling on Governor DeSantis to stop this. With a simple stroke of his pen declaring a state of emergency, he can make sure our neighbors don’t go hungry. He has the power, the resources, and the responsibility to turn this around now, instead of watching this disaster unfold. As former Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, I know the Cabinet can quickly deploy funds and food to those who need it most.

This moment is bigger than politics. This is about showing up for our fellow Americans and keeping Floridians safe and fed.”
