Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried Responds to Deadly Hanukkah Attack in Bondi Beach, Australia

On December 14, two shooters attacked a peaceful gathering of the Jewish community as they celebrated the first evening of Hanukkah in Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia.  The attack left 15 dead, dozens wounded, and the entire global community shaken by this horrific act of antisemitic violence.

“On what should be a joyous eight nights filled with warmth and light, the Jewish diaspora sits with immense grief after the deadly attack in Sydney,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “Across the world and right here in Florida, which holds one of the largest Jewish populations in the nation, we are all holding our loved ones a little closer as we mourn with the families of the victims.”

“As we celebrate Hanukkah, we are strengthened by the resolve of those who came before us and remember that light is the most powerful in the darkest moments. We must condemn antisemitism and continue to combat its rise.”

“Far too many generations have had to know the destructive weight of this hate, and we must ensure that the next generation can live freely and without fear. The Florida Democratic Party will continue to work to elect officials at all levels of government who understand that and work towards a future free of violence for all communities.”
