Florida Democratic Party Chair Responds to the State of the Union Address & Democratic Rebuttal

TALLAHASSEE, FLLast Night, President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address where he bragged of an economy that feels increasingly out of reach for working families. Democrats chose to focus on a different message, one of unity and affordability, the winning vision for America’s future.

For millions of Americans the State of the Union did not inspire confidence that America’s leaders have a plan to make it better. However, the Democratic rebuttal by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger painted a path forward with solutions and optimism.

“Americans deserve to know that their leaders are focused on addressing the problems that keep them up at night, problems that dictate where you live, whether you can afford to start a business, or whether you have to skip a prescription in order to buy groceries,” Gov. Spanberger said. “Is the president working to make life more affordable for you and your family? We all know the answer is no.”

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried echoed that message:

“The American people are ready for leadership that works for them. This corrupt chapter is almost over. In November, voters are going to choose leaders who fight to lower costs, expand opportunity, and protect our freedoms. Democrats are not just opposing a failed agenda. We are inviting Americans to help write the next 250 years with us,” Fried added. “Join us. Organize with us. Vote with us. Let’s build a country that works for working people again.”
