Ukrainian Americans: Marco Rubio’s Vote Against Aid To Ukraine Is “A Slap In The Face”
After Marco Rubio voted against critical military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Ukrainian Americans from Florida, including those who fled previous Russian invasions, released the following statement condemning Rubio for abandoning Ukrainians bravely fighting for their country:
“As our fellow Ukrainians bravely fight back against Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked and illegal invasion of our homeland, Marco Rubio’s abandonment of Ukraine is a slap in the face. Rubio has spent weeks voicing support for Ukraine, but those words now shamefully ring hollow. He had an opportunity to act on his rhetoric, but instead Rubio voted against much-needed aid for Ukraine, putting his own self-serving political agenda ahead of supporting the Ukrainian people.
We are grateful that Republicans and Democrats were able to quickly come together to support critical humanitarian and military aid to our allies. World leaders uniting against Putin’s authoritarianism to support President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the fight for Ukrainian democracy have been a beacon of hope during this war. But Marco Rubio’s shameful vote against our homeland is another sign that Floridians, especially our fellow Ukrainian Americans across the state, can’t trust him to stand up for us. It’s time to hold Rubio accountable for his cowardice and replace him with someone who won’t abandon us in an attempt to score cheap political points.”
