Florida Democratic Party Statement on Minneapolis School Shooting
The Florida Democratic Party released the following statement in response to the heartbreaking news out of Minneapolis, where at least two children were killed, and 17 people were injured in a shooting at a Catholic school during Mass to commemorate the first week of classes:
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn alongside the Minneapolis community after yet another horrific act of gun violence, this time against children during what should have been a joyful first week of school. No parent should ever fear for their child’s safety in a classroom,” said Nikki Fried, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
What happened in Minneapolis is not an isolated tragedy; it’s part of a devastating pattern of gun violence. We cannot keep accepting this as normal. It is time for leaders at every level of government to pass commonsense solutions to keep our children safe.
Florida Democrats remain committed to fighting for stronger gun safety laws because, in the words of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, thoughts and prayers are not enough to end gun violence. Our kids deserve to learn, grow, and dream in safe schools and safe communities.
