Florida Democratic Party Marks the Beginning of the Legislative Session with 2026 Affordability Agenda
Today marks the start of Florida’s 2026 Legislative Session. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released the following statement:
“This session begins with a clear choice: continue down a path of political distractions and special-interest giveaways, or fight for a Florida that working families can actually afford.
Florida Democrats are choosing to fight, legislate, organize, and vote for an affordable Florida. I’m proud of the Democratic members of the House and Senate for putting forward the 2026 Affordability Agenda, a comprehensive plan to confront the cost-of-living crisis squeezing families across our state.
At a time when Floridians are struggling with skyrocketing property insurance rates, housing costs, and everyday expenses like groceries, this agenda delivers real solutions, including financial assistance, targeted tax relief, and strong consumer protections to hold powerful interests accountable. We urge lawmakers and the press not to take the bait of culture wars and partisan theatrics. Floridians can’t afford distractions. In his final session, the governor has again refused to fight for everyday people, choosing instead to funnel taxpayer dollars to cronies through sweetheart deals, undermine public education, and prioritize special interests over our communities.
Democrats are focused on what matters: lowering costs, protecting homeowners, and ensuring every family has a fair shot at stability and opportunity. We call on the Legislature to do right by the 23 million Floridians who deserve a Florida they can afford.”
