The Florida Democratic Party Demands Accountability in Hope Florida Scandal: “An anonymous leak from the DOJ doesn’t equal innocence.”
Tallahassee, FL — During an ongoing affordability crisis, Governor Ron DeSantis steered millions of state funds away from programs meant to help Floridians and into political ads in the 2024 elections. Following reports of an anonymous source claiming President Trump’s Justice Department will not pursue charges related to the Hope Florida scandal, Florida Democrats push back on Gov. Ron DeSantis and Attorney General James Uthmeier’s attempts to declare the case closed.
“This is spin, not exoneration. An anonymous leak about the Trump Justice Department doing nothing doesn’t equal innocence, it just confirms what Floridians already know about a corrupt, politically motivated DOJ,” said Nikki Fried, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
“Nothing about this stops the state investigation. Nothing shuts down the grand jury in Leon County. And it certainly doesn’t answer the basic question: who will be accountable for stealing $10 million from Medicaid?”
The facts haven’t changed. A state-created charity quietly routed settlement funds through political insiders and into a campaign account. That deserves genuine answers, not a social media victory lap.
While they dodge accountability, this administration is wasting $537 million on political immigration stunts that aren’t making our communities safer and are hurting our economy. Floridians demand transparency and accountability.
