Nearly 7,000 Voters Join Florida Democratic Party Redistricting Event After Florida GOP Proposes New Maps

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Last night the Florida Democratic Party hosted a call to action for voters infuriated by the Florida GOP’s attempts to redraw Congressional maps mid-decade. Hosted by gun violence activist Sam Schwartz and Joanne Carducci, the event drew nearly 7,000 viewers.

“Florida voters aren’t dumb, and they know that attempts by the Florida GOP to redraw maps are nothing more than an attempt to rig the system,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “Congressional maps are drawn once a decade, after a Federal census, not when a political party is afraid of losing power.

Tonight’s turnout shows that Florida’s voters are engaged and ready to fight against any attempt to dilute their power. They know that voters should pick who represents them and politicians shouldn’t cherry-pick their voters.”

Joined by DNC Chair Ken Martin, Texas Dems Chair Kendall Scudder, Former FL State Senator and Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, D4Women in Action Executive Director Kristin Fulwylie, and political commentator Aaron Parnas, the event served as a rallying cry for those concerned about the potential for new maps.

The Florida Democratic Party is calling on lawmakers, legal experts, and voters across the state to reject this unethical move to draw congressional maps in the mid-decade.
