Florida Democratic Party Applauds the Election of Senator Shevrin Jones as Senate Democratic Leader Designate

TALLAHASSEE, FL –  Today, the Florida Senate Democratic Caucus voted to designate Senator Shevrin Jones (SD-34) the Senate Democratic Leader for the 2028-2030 cycle. Senator Jones will assume the role following the 2026-2028 term of current Senate Democratic Leader Designate Tracie Davis. The Florida Democratic Party released the following statement:

“I could not be more thrilled for my friend and a fierce fighter for all Floridians, Sen. Shevrin Jones, as he assumes this mantle of leadership in the Senate,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried.

“From his childhood in South Florida and working on behalf of the students at Florida A&M as a member of student government, to his time as a community leader and member of the legislature, Senator Jones has always led with a heart devoted to service and a mind laser-focused on the needs of everyday people.

As a leader in the chamber, his trademark conviction and compassion will support the creation of policies that ensure every Floridian is seen and can thrive. He will fight so that our state lives up to its potential as a place where families can afford housing, healthcare is accessible, public education is stronger, and economic opportunity is available for all who seek it.

I applaud the Senate Democratic Caucus on this spectacular selection. It will truly be a gamechanger for the people of the State of Florida.”
