Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump’s Illegal Trade War but he’s Still Wreaking Havoc
TALLAHASSEE, FL. — With a 6–3 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down tariffs levied by the President, rejecting Trump’s claim that he could unilaterally wage a trade war without Congress. Trump is signaling he may defy the Court and impose even higher tariffs doubling down on the same reckless strategy that slowed growth.
“Trump’s illegal trade war raised prices and hurt working families and now he wants to double down. Last year alone, families paid $175 billion more because of Trump’s tariffs. Working households spent an estimated $1,700 extra, with American consumers absorbing 95% of the burden not foreign exporters. That’s not leadership, it’s chaos. We need leaders who respect the law and fight to lower costs,” said Nikki Fried, Florida Democratic Party Chair.
“Floridians have been hit hard by these illegal tariffs and our farmers, small businesses, and retail sectors have been unnecessarily harmed by soaring costs. In the middle of an affordability crisis, the right thing to do is clear. Florida Democrats are demanding the immediate return of this money to those it was taken from, the 23 million Floridians that call our state home.”
November’s midterms are our opportunity to restore checks and balances to elect Democrats who will retake the House, flip the Senate, and finally provide real oversight of Trump’s power.
