Florida Democratic Party Congratulates Keith Givens on Winning Maitland City Council Race

Tallahassee, FL Tonight, Keith Givens was elected to the Maitland City Council, representing Seat 2. This is a historic victory as he becomes the first Black member of the Council in nearly 200 years. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“I’m excited to extend my congratulations to councilman-elect Keith Givens on this historic victory. Tonight not only did he win an election, but made history as the first Black person elected to the Maitland City Council in nearly 200 years,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Keith truly exemplifies the best of us. After a distinguished career in the military and serving as an FBI agent, Keith has more than fulfilled the call of service to our country. Instead of sitting down, Keith has stepped up to continue his life of public service by helping the people of his community. Alongside his trademark integrity, I know that he will bring a strategic, problem-solving, people centered approach to his tenure on the Council and the City of Maitland will be better for it.

We’re proud of Keith and his involvement with our Take Back Local program. By providing candidates with resources and on the ground support, the Florida Democratic Party continues to swing the pendulum in our direction.”
