Republicans Know They Can’t Win, So They’re Trying to Cheat: Florida Democrats Slam Trump’s Unconstitutional Vote-by-Mail Order and DeSantis’s Voter Purge Act
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Last night, Donald Trump signed an unconstitutional executive order gutting vote-by-mail access ahead of the 2026 midterms. Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Florida’s so-called “Purge Act,” imposing new documentation barriers that will make it harder for seniors, working families, veterans, rural voters, and students to cast a ballot. In response, Nikki Fried, Chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party, issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump voted by mail last week, and now he’s trying to take that right away from millions of Floridians. This isn’t about election security. It’s about rigging the rules because they are underwater with voters. Their policies crashed our economy, made groceries unaffordable, housing unaffordable, and now they’re making democracy unaffordable. Floridians just sent them a message at the ballot box in the special election, and Republicans responded by trying to make the ballot box harder to reach. The GOP can call it election integrity all they want, but Floridians know a rigged system when they see one, and they’ll make Republicans pay for it in November.”
