FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR NIKKI FRIED: DEMOCRATS GAINED GROUND ACROSS FLORIDA TONIGHT, AND WE’RE NOT BACKING DOWN
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Following tonight’s general election, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released the following statement:
“Tonight didn’t go the way we fought for at the top of the ticket. To Angie Nixon, David Jolly and Gwen Graham, José Javier Rodríguez, Annette Taddeo, and Joey Mendoza Atkins: thank you. You ran on the issues Floridians are struggling with most, and you made Republicans defend a record of higher costs and broken promises. That matters, and so does every voter you reached.
“Since the August primary, our coordinated campaign has knocked on more than 1.2 million doors and made 5.25 million calls to voters across Florida. That work helped drive a nearly 20-point swing toward Democrats statewide compared to the 2022 midterms, with Democratic turnout surpassing even 2018 levels.
“We did all of this without major national investment in Florida. Volunteers, candidates, county parties, and partners across this state worked with us to build the infrastructure, organized in communities, and delivered measurable progress with limited resources. Imagine what we could accomplish with the national support and investment this state deserves. Florida is winnable, and tonight’s results prove that writing us off is a mistake no one should make again.
“After nearly 30 years of Republican control, Floridians are still facing an affordability crisis, threats to their fundamental freedoms, and a lack of accountability in Tallahassee. Tonight’s results don’t change those realities, and they don’t change our commitment to building a Florida where working families can afford to live, our public schools are strong, and government works for the people it serves.
“Building lasting change takes time, and we’re going to keep showing up, keep organizing, and keep fighting for a better Florida. Our work is far from over, and we’re not backing down.”
