Statement from Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried Marking Three Years Since the October 7th Attack
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Today, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried issued the following statement marking three years since the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel:
“Three years ago, Hamas carried out the deadliest attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust, murdering more than 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage. Today, we remember every life stolen, stand with the survivors, and hold close the families forever changed by the horrors of October 7.
“As a Jewish woman who grew up in Miami, this day is deeply personal to me. I will never forget the fear and heartbreak of that morning, or the anguish of watching families spend months and years fighting to bring their loved ones home.
“This is the first anniversary with no hostages remaining in Gaza. We are grateful for those who made it home alive, and we mourn those who returned only to be laid to rest.
“I have always believed that hate never stays contained. When antisemitism goes unanswered, it emboldens hatred and bigotry in all its forms. Jewish communities in Florida and around the world have endured three painful years of rising antisemitism, and we must continue to call it out wherever it appears and ensure that the horrors of October 7 are never minimized, excused, or forgotten.
“May the memories of those we lost be a blessing, and may all those still healing find peace.”
